common echinoderm
Characteristics of the Plant
Species Description
Echinops vulgaris has stiff, white-felted shoots that reach a height of about 100 cm. The thistle-like leaves are green above and silvery below. Despite belonging to the aster family, the plant has single-flowered heads, which is unique among plants with this type of inflorescence. The heads are steel-blue and clustered in relatively compact heads, 2-4 cm in diameter. The plants bloom from July to September and are valued not only by gardeners but also by beekeepers for their melliferous flowers, which also attract colorful butterflies. They look attractive in naturalistic plantings, in perennial borders, alongside plants such as mugwort, dicotyledonous, or goldenrod. They look fantastic in small groupings, against a background of dark green conifers or purple deciduous shrubs. Although their plants have thorns, florists often use them in flower arrangements, and not just after drying. The plant prefers well-drained, gravelly soil that is not too wet, but rather dry. It requires a sunny location.

przegorzan pospolity
Charakterystyka Rośliny
Opis Gatunku
